Book Reviews

Welcome to My Bookshelves

Hello there! This is my first blog post ever and I’m quite excited (and nervous) to share this journey with you all. First, I’ll start off by telling you a little bit about myself.

My name is Julia and I’m a second year college student studying to be a writer. Choosing to become a writing major was both the simplest and scariest choice of my life. For one, writing is my passion. It has always been inevitable, I think, that I would end up studying writing in college.

Since the moment my third grade teacher lent me a copy of Percy Jackson and the Lightning Thief by Rick Riordan I knew I wanted to be a storyteller (Annabeth lovers, anyone?). On the other hand, writing as a career sounds really scary to me. There is a lot of risk involved in being a professional writer, but I know that if something matters so deeply to me, there is no risk too big. And so here I am, pursuing a degree in writing and hopefully a career as an author and filmmaker.

Now you might be thinking, why a blog about books? The simple answer to that question is that I love books. Obviously, considering the fact that I am a writing major, books are a big part of my life. But the more complicated answer surrounds the idea that I love books and have a lot of opinions about them. I believe that stories are always calling us to ask questions. Especially in Young Adult fiction, authors really speak boldly about many different topics and are asking their readers to think about something. This blog is a place where we can ponder our own ideas and discoveries from literature. It is like an extension of every conversation I have with myself and others after finishing a book. Some posts will be more fun, and others academic and analytical (Honestly, I find the analytical stuff fun, too. I just love learning).

I welcome you into this space to explore my own thoughts, and I invite you to use them as a launching point for your own discoveries. Honestly, I’m not the smartest with technology, so things may be a little rocky at the start! Still, I am devoted to creating a blog to share my love of stories with you all.

Thanks for visiting! Happy reading.

  1. I’m reverting to my childhood favorite. Nancy Drew. Loving the books as much as I did when I was a pre-teen. I had just finished reading the first 3 volumes of the Dublin Murders. Very sad and disturbing.
