The fact that I’m putting together a fall TBR list feels unreal. How is it already September?
Surrealism aside, fall is definitely my favorite season. I’m not ashamed to say I love a pumpkin spiced latte every once in a while, although tea is definitely my hot beverage of preference.
Fall feels really cozy to me and I find it to be a great time to dive into fantasy novels. There’s something special about diving into magical worlds when real life looks magical, too. I’m lucky enough to live in a part of the world where we experience all of the stereotypical fall weather that you see in the movies. Changing leaves and chilly weather actually bring me so much joy.
I am also devout comfort fashionista, which means fuzzy socks are about to become the most worn item of my wardrobe. There is nothing better in the world than cozy pants, a warm sweater, and a pair of fuzzy socks (with a good book of course!).
I’ve put together this list of books I intend to read this fall for two reasons. One, I am a planner and like to keep myself on track. By making a list I feel like I have some sort of goal to reach. The other reason is because I invite you to indulge in some of these books with me! You can always see what I’m currently reading on my Goodreads, but this list is like a cheat-sheet for what is up and coming for me. Of course I’m not limiting myself to only these books, but they’re the ones I’ve picked up with the intention of finishing this fall.
I have to admit that I’m a little bit nervous about finishing this list (even though it is shorter than normal). This will be my first semester doing online classes and it will certainly be strange and unprecedented learning how to manage work in this virtual setting. Still, I always make time to read on my own because I am a firm believer that good readers make good writers. As a writing major, I know how important it is to keep reading outside of classes. Plus, I just really like to read and would indulge anyway even if I wasn’t an aspiring writer.
This season’s list is a mix of new and returning authors for me. I’m yet again looking to tackle an Austen novel because she’s one of my favorite classic authors. Sometimes I think readers can fall into patterns of only reading books by a handful of authors. While I do think if you love an author that you should support them, the literary community is filled with an infinite amount of unique voices! I’m always looking to expand my horizons and connect with new authors that I love.

- A Song of Wraiths & Ruin by Roseanne A. Brown
- Blood & Honey by Shelby Mahurin
- I Wish You All the Best by Mason Deaver
- Sense & Sensibility by Jane Austen
- The Retribution of Mara Dyer by Michelle Hodkin
- Children of Virtue & Vengeance by Tomi Adeyemi
- Pachinko by Min Jin Lee
- Raybearer by Jordan Ifueko
- The House of Hades by Rick Riordan
- Brown Girl Dreaming by Jacqueline Woodson
- Fun Home by Alison Bechdel
As my TBR (To Be Read) pile is never-ending, I’m always looking for new recommendations and would love to hear if there’s any books you think I should add to my fall list!
I hope you all are staying safe and healthy. To all of the students out there, good luck with the start of the semester. Our situations are not ideal, but we can do our best to make the most of the opprtunuites for education in front of us.
Happy reading!
So true….Good readers do make good writers. I love the variety of these titles. And diverse authors. Happy reading! ❤️📚
